“What do you wish for?”

Golden heads sat upon the walls of Kings Landing, mouths agape in a mockery of lions. The bond of marriage dissolved in death;  Sansa wished to taste snow again, and shed the feel of southern sun, of her forced name.

Robb smelled like snow, like winter, like hardness and death and steel, like a place where the sun retreated in the face of fury. He smelled like home.

“I can wish for nothing, my Grace. You have given it to me already.”

I don’t want any Lannister, she wanted to say. I want Willas, I want Highgarden and the puppies and the barge, and sons named Eddard and Bran and Rickon. But then she remembered what Dontos had told her in the godswood. Tyrell or Lannister, it makes no matter, it’s not me they want, only my claim.

TV MEME: [3/5] Female Characters: Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones)

Personally, I don’t see a difference. My dislike of Sansa has nothing to do with her love of pretty things.

And i didn’t say it did. You dislike a character and that’s that. You don’t have to have a rational reason (or any reason at all) to dislike them but my post was not about Sansa or Arya specifically, they served only as examples for what i was trying to convey which is that society expects girls to be feminine but when you like flowers and pink, you are looked down upon as shallow, dumb etc…

Really, guys, you are completely missing the point here, it’s not a discussion about liking or disliking Sansa. Sansa likes pretty things and that’s a fact. Weather you like or dislike her is your own problem. IT’S NOT ABOUT SANSA, IT’S ABOUT THE GENERAL TREATMENT GIRLS (NOT ONLY BUT I’M TALKING ABOUT GIRLS HERE) GET FOR LIKING THOSE TYPE OF THINGS!

I just wanted to say that Arya suports flowers ♥ As for the main issue.. well I agree with la-bella-borgia. (I love both characters btw)

I love them both too but as i said before, the post was NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM, pitting the girls against each other, they were simply points i used to illustrate the issue in our society (maybe not very well but i was just trying to get my point across.)

I keep seeing posts about how Sansa is hated for liking pretty things, but I have yet to hear someone say they dislike her for that.

Really? I have, tons of them. Just go through the Sansa Stark tag (i don’t know about now because i stopped tacking it and going in there along time ago) there’s plenty of people claiming she’s dumb for liking pretty things and fairytales and Florian and Jonquil like romances.

Personally, for me it’s not different. Like you said, different people like different things. Only our society has…

It’s sad, really because they are such amazing characters (all the characters in asoiaf, really) and if you spend your life hating one like people hate Sansa (you can hate/dislike a character and still appreciate that it’s well written, a good character etc. I talked about it here) you’ll never understand the beauty of asoiaf

How is liking cooking or flowers or pretty things different from liking swords or sports or wrestling?

There’s many problematic things with this that bug me, starting with the gender roles assigned to these stuff but for now i’ll be focusing on what it does to girls, specifically.

The thing is, girls who like pink, girls who like flowers and skirts and supposedly feminine things are very much thought of as weak and useless.

I’ll give you an example: Sansa and Arya Stark from A Song of Ice and Fire/ Game of Thrones. Arya is a fandom favorite, Sansa is generally hated by the fandom. Sansa likes romance, princes, lemon cakes and pretty things. Arya likes playing with swords, hates dresses and would like the freedom to roll around in the mud with her direwolf. The two Stark girls are at opposite ends of the social spectrum. “As different as the sun and the moon.” As Lord Stark so poetically put it.

Now, i won’t get into Arya here because what i’m talking about here is why people who like pretty things are so looked down upon.

Because Sansa likes pretty things, the fandom says she’s dumb, that she’s weak and useless and it’s something i really don’t understand and it’s, unfortunately, a reflection of the society we live in. But i ask you now how is liking pretty things different from liking, say, action movies? How is liking flowers different from liking video games? It’s not, they are tastes and different people have different tastes. That’s all there is to it. Liking pretty things doesn’t make you weak or useless just as much as liking wresting doesn’t give you physical strength. You simply like pretty things.   You simply like wrestling.

I find it really strange that people don’t understand this, it’s so simple…

Anyway, i would like to hear what you guys have to say so, opinions?
