fakebook of the houses
I really love Catelyn and i think the hate she gets is undeserved (as is with mostly of the ASOIAF characters) so allow me to explain (XD)
1. Jon Snow: It is totally understandable why she does what she does to Jon. First of all Jon is a constant reminder of her husbands betrayal. How would you feel if you were in Cat’s place?
Second Jon being brought up in the same place and in the same way as Catelyn’s children was an insult to her and her family according to Westeros customs a bit like…on of your guests showing up with a plus one without a warning and without asking permission (but in this case in a much, much bigger scale)
I believe in one of her chapters she had said that she wouldn’t mind a thousand bastards as long as they were kept away from her and her family. This is the third point that i want to talk about.
Another of the reasons Catelyn acts the way she does is because she fears Jon for he is a potential threat to her children’s rights (and Ned showing treating them all the same doesn’t make it easier) (see Ramsay Snow). You have to understand that in westeros, bastards are considered evil creatures born of lies and all those evil things and i think it’s safe to assume that Cat also believes in this.
And lastly you also have to understand that Catelyn is possibly the only noblewoman who has to live with a bastard under her own roof so all of this makes her attitude towards Jon understandable.
2. Whiny, boring Cat: Cat’s is not whiny or boring. Cat’s chapters bring you the view of a mother whose family is at war and whose family members are, one by one, dying.
Cat does not whine. What you consider ‘whining’ is called reflection. Cat reflects on what has happened and how it changed her from what it was before. It is natural for all humans to do this even more if you had recently lost someone you loved. Everybody who has gone through that experience should find it easy to understand what Cat is going through.
When you loose someone you love, for a time (it depends for everyone) there is going to be the sort of behavior where a lot of things makes you remember them and miss them. I will give you a real life example: A few years ago my grandfather died and in the first days every time i passed through is room i though “i will go in there and give grandpa a kiss” and only after would i remember that he was no longer there. That happened once or twice to me and you can’t help but think of these people when you pass through places they liked, when you see their favorite things etc. It is a long process that some people have more difficulty getting through than others but it’s something that changes you forever. Good or bad, after a experience like that you can never be the same as you were before.
ok i think i shouldn’t talk more of Cat or this will be huge.
Thanks for sending a message, i love you!

I’ll not weep that thou art going to leave me,
There’s nothing lovely here;
And doubly will the dark world grieve me,
While thy heart suffers there.
I’ll not weep, because the summer’s glory
Must always end in gloom;
And, follow out the happiest story—
It closes with a tomb!
And I am weary of the anguish
Increasing winters bear;
Weary to watch the spirit languish
Through years of dead despair.
So, if a tear, when thou art dying,
Should haply fall from me,
It is but that my soul is sighing,
To go and rest with thee.
Every noble house had its words. Family mottoes, touchstones, prayers of sorts, they boasted of honor and glory, promised loyalty and truth, swore faith and courage.
